The Democratic Republic of Congo
The Democratic Republic of Congo is a country in the middle of Africa. Its's population is 77,433,744 , its Language is French and its Religion is Christianity. The DR of Congo is the 2nd biggest African country.
History
At the start of the DRC's History Nomad tribes wandered the Jungle. Not much is know about these tribes because they did not write, and Europeans did not go deep into Africa until the 1800's.

Uhtred the bold

I already wrote about him here is the link.

The Chipmunk
Recently we found a chipmunk. It had its head turned on an angle, it was injured. We found it laying ( looking dead ) near Sophie ( our dog ) and she was barking at it. After a while the chipmunk got up and started looking around, digging up nuts that were buried. He ate the nuts and kept looking. But he did not run away from us , he was injured. If we left him out in the wild he would have died, so we put him in a cage with almonds to keep him until he got healed. Recently he escaped ( he was practically healed ) and now he is gone. We do not know how he got injured or how he escaped , but I think he might have fell from a tree and injured himself, or he was scared to death of Sophie, we will never know.

My Summary of chapter 4 Dr. Art's guide to Science
This Chapter is about energy. Energy makes matter change and move around. Matter is the stuff in the world, anything that takes up space. Electricity, Light , motion and heat are all forms of Energy. Energy changes form a lot.

Benjamin Thompson was a scientist and count. He was born in Massachusetts in 1753. He invented many things including efficient fire places. He did an experiment that proved friction could turn into heat energy.

The Laws of the Conservation of Energy state that energy can not be created or destroyed. The Atomic theory of matter says that atoms and molecules vibrate and move around. They move around more in gases and liquids then solids. Heat = the energy of motion. So when molecules move around fast it creates heat. Physical change is when things melt, evaporate, condense and freeze. It is when matter changes states, from solids( in solids the molecules vibrate but do not really move around) to liquid( in liquid the molecules move around more  ) to gas ( and in gas the molecules move around the most ).

In Physical changes the matter keeps the same atoms and molecules. In chemical change though the molecules change. The matter becomes something totally different. Fire is an example of chemical change. In fire the starting molecules ( Oxygen and wood  ), have more Chemical energy than the products ( carbon dioxide and water ) .So in order to stay true to the laws of conservation, another product is heat and light energy ( fire ).Chemical change does not create energy, it conserves it.

1 water molecule is not wetter then one rock molecule, because you need many molecules together in a system to feel wetness. We are systems of molecules that experience other systems of molecules.

My Summary of chapter 5 Dr. Art's guide to Science
This chapter is about  Forces. When Matter changes its energy then a force is being acted on it.

Galileo measured gravity ( the force that attracts things. When a apple falls to earth, gravity is acting , attracting the apple to the earth and the earth to the apple. Since the earth is way bigger than the apple you cant really see the earth being moved towards the apple because it is so small a force. )

Issac newton discovered gravity, he also invented Calculus, so he could measure the strength of gravity exactly. Newton made the Newton's laws of Gravitation Attraction and Newton's laws of motion. They say that the farther apart the objects are and smaller the mass ( mass is how much matter there is in something ) of the objects - the weaker the force of gravity. But the closer together the objects are and the more Mass that have -the stronger the force of Gravity. Gravity applies everywhere in the universe. It is the force that makes the moon orbit the earth and the earth orbit the sun.

There is a/are force/forces stronger than Gravity. The 2 separate forces are electricity ( electricity is the flow and charge of electrons . One form of electricity is static electricity. Static electricity is stronger than gravity. One way to show this is when you rub a balloon on fur and then pick up paper. Gravity is acting on the paper , but it can not keep it on the ground. Why this happened: When we rub the balloon on the fur it rubs of some electrons on the fur. The electrons come on the balloon and make it negatively charged. The paper is neutral ( has same number of protons as electrons ) so when we bring a negatively charged balloon by it the electrons near the surface move away from their alike counterparts. This makes the surface of the paper Positive. Since unlike attract the positively charged surface of the paper goes towards the negatively charged balloon.) and Magnetism ( Magnetism is a force field around a Magnet that attracts metal like Iron.  Magnets have a North and south pole. ). Together they are called Electromagnetism ( Electromagnetism ). Magnetism and electricity are closely related to each other and are parts of Electromagnetism.

Early medieval Japan , Korea and Australia

Around the 500's Japan was divided into many different clans. One of these Clans , the Yamato Clan, was stronger than the others. The Yamato clan wanted to conquer the other clans and rule Japan. And after many many long years of fighting , but the did conquer Japan. It was hard keeping control of so many clans , so the Yamato emperors said they were descended  from ( this Is not true. It is just Japanese mythology ) the sun goddess, Amaterasu.  This helped the Yamato leaders ( the Yamato dynasty had to parts : the Kofun period and the Asuka period  ), but they also borrowed ideas (for good ruling ) from China and Korea. Way back in med-late ancient times, the Chinese had invaded Korea and conquered some of it. Later the Koreans took most of their land back.  Korea got divided into 3 parts  : Paekche, Silla and Goguryeo. The Koreans use Chinese ways a lot after they got free. Paekche wanted to take the other two kingdoms , so they asked Japan to form a pact with them( that says: if you go to war we will help you. If we go to war you will help us) .  When the Japanese saw the gifts that came with the letter they were amazed by one: a book in Chinese. The Japanese asked the Koreans to teach them Chinese, and the Koreans did. The Koreans taught them many of their ways. The Koreans were influenced by the Chinese , and the Japanese were influenced by the Koreans. So it is safe to say that Korea and Japan were influenced by China. During the Tang Dynasty ( of china. The Tang Dynasty was a golden age of china. Before China was divided in to parts (North China and south China). Yang Chien was a general in the northern Army. He attacked south china and became Emperor of united china in 581. Yang Chien founded the Sui dynasty of China. The Yangtze River had divided earlier china. It Also threatened to divide china Again. So the Next Sui emperor , Yangdi  , ordered a grand man made canal connecting south and north. It connected south and north china but it made people poor and mad at the emperor. They had paid extra taxes for it, and had spent a lot of time digging it. The Chinese revolted and ended the Sui dynasty. The next dynasty was the Tang. During the Tang Dynasty printing and gunpowder were invented) the Chinese invaded Korea and conquered Paekche. After much fighting the rest of the Koreans drove China out. Japan did not want to be attacked at all. Even though the Japanese copied the  Chinese a lot, they still thought themselves as equals to China. So 400 years later the Japanese stopped copying the Chinese.  In Australia the people were nomads. There was no king or emperor like in Japan and china. Instead they walked around moving where there was food and water, never settling , picking berries, fishing and hunting animals. These people were like the very first people they still did not know how to farm!  These people were called the Aborigines.

In desert and wilderness.

I recently finished reading this book called In desert and wilderness.
This book is about two European descent children who live in Egypt while the Suez canal was being built because their fathers were engineers working on it. The children get captured and are taken through east Africa. They endure many hard ships. I will make a summary of the book right now:

These two children called Stas and Nell lived in Egypt with their fathers. But one day they got kidnapped by some Sudanese and Arabs. These people were faithful to this Mahdi or religious leader who wants to take over the world. But he was only in Sudan fighting the Egyptians. The Egyptians had colonized Sudan because the British had ordered it. The Egyptian government was a protectorate of the British. Stas and Nell rode camel back over desert and jungle to Sudan where they met the Mahdi. The Mahdi asked them to follow him. Stas replied no and The Mahdi ordered them on a journey to another city that was ruled by the Mahdi. The journey was harsh like the desert jouney. When they got there they were told to meet with another Sudanese man named Smain. They went into the jungle to searched for him. When they met a lion the Arabs and the Sudanese did not know how to shoot a new rifle that belonged to Stas. They had took it from him. Stas took the Rifle and shot the Lion then he shot the Arabs and Sudanese. Stas and Nell procided with a Mastiff and two slaves that had belonged too Nell and the Sudanese. They went along through the Eastern Congo. Eating antelopes and whatever game they could find. They also ate fruit. They found an Elephant trapped by rock and tamed him. Nell got a fever and Stas found a Swiss man that had Medicine for fever. The Swiss man then died. Stas blew up the rock and freed the elephant. Stas and Nell found a mountain and went into it it had plenty of provisions. They lived there and sent kites made of paper that the Swiss had given  them and made out of fish bladder membranes. Then they went on eastward towards the Indian Ocean. They passed through many Villages with black people and scared them into submission with guns and the elephant. Then they helped the people of one of their friends( the slaves left over from the Sudanese) Then they got hundreds of men from the village and set of for the coast. But they came to a place where no water was and they soon ran out of water. They almost died. But a kite had been found by a European led caravan. They saved the day. When they had been fed and they drunk water they went to sleep. They met their Fathers on a coastal city for a message had been sent that they were still alive.

My recent drawings and more on Frozen

Here are some of my recent drawings .

Some of these drawings were inspired and based on Frozen The most recent Disney movie.
As I have listed on This Blogpost, Frozen was about a city getting concealed in snow and ice in summer. A person ( who happend to be the leader of the city named Arenndell ) Had a magical power . This person made Arrendeel snowy. The Ice and snow will kill the people if it is not stopped. The leaders relative goes through an adventure to stop the ice and snow. At the start of the movie there is a scene where ice cutters ( or icemen ) Cut ice and stack it in their wagon while chanting or singing a song .

Born of cold an' winter air and mountain rain combining
this icy force both foul and fair has a frozen heart worth mining
so cut through  the heart  cold  and  clear  strike  for her love and
strike for her fear see the beauty  sharp and clear smite the ice apart
and break the frozen heart . ya! ho! watch your step let it go!, ya! ho! watch
your step let it go. beautiful , powerful , dangerous, cold ice has a maigic can't
be controlled stronger than 1 stronger than 10 stronger than 100 men ! Ya !.  Born
of cold an' winter air and mountain rain combining this icy force both foul and fair has
a frozen heart worth mining so cut through the heart cold and clear strike for her love and
strike for her fear there's beauty and there's danger here smite the ice apart beware the frozen
                                                   Heart
The ice industry was a huge thing led by the " ice king " Frederic Tudor. Until the1800s when the ice making machine was invented . The icemen would cut the ice with saws and pack it into carriages that went to ice storehouses . where they stayed until they were shipped to some continent like Africa of South America . This ice was used to help people with diseases.

Recent Africa history

First explorations
Some of the first explorations were the Europeans rounding the cape of good hope. Then christian missionaries from Europe started exploring more into Africa. One of these was a famous explorer
named David Livingstone. He explored deep into Africa . When he got to Europe he wrote a book about his explorations. when he went back to Africa he was missing for 4 years. So a newspaper in America sent a reporter named Henry Stanley to look for him. He found him in Ujiji near lake Victoria .Livingstone stayed in Africa.

First colonies
The first colonies in africa were near the coast. Britain , France , Portugal , Germany , Netherlands and others settled these first colonies . South africa was controlled by the Boers ( Dutch ) and the British . Angola and Mozambique were controlled by Portugal . France took Sierra Leon and other coastal places. Germany took the coastal parts of Tanzania and Namibia. Italy took some of Libya and Somali.  All these colonies gave the European powers more goods like gold, ivory and sugar.

The scramble for Africa
During the late 1800s and early 1900s the scramble for africa took off. The European countries started to take more of the land inland . New European countries started to come like Belgium and Spain . Belgium took a giant part of africa in the Congo. Spain took land southwest of modern day Morocco. Britain took Ghana or the gold coast, Egypt, Sudan, Kenya, Botswana , Zimbabwe, Zambia and Nigeria. France took almost all of west Africa and Madagascar . Portugal took guinea bassu in northwest africa. Cameroon  and Togo were taken by Germany. Germany also took all of Namibia and Tanzania. Netherlands loses their land in Africa . Italy takes Eritrea . Ethiopia and Liberia are the only countries to survive the scramble of Africa .

Animal Facts

The Caracal

The Caracal is a medium sized african cat. It is famous for its leaps into the air to catch its prey. Mainly Ginny fowls and other low flying birds that live in africa.

An adult Caracal is as fast as a cheetah cub. The Caracal has large ears so it can hear predators and prey. It is extremely hard to find because it is a tan color and the tall grass it lives in is tan also. Caracal cubs have many Predators on the savannah so the usually hide in an aardvark hole or somewhere else safe. The Caracal is cat which hisses most in the world.  It can even hiss away a Croc !!

Yeti Crab
The yeti Crab is a crab that lives at the bottom of the sea close to underwater trenches and volcanos . the tube worm and clams also live there . the Yeti crab looks like a large tick with larger hairy arms. It eats bacteria that gets its food from the heat of the volcano, carbon dioxide and Oxygen. Its mixes them all together to make sugar or glucose for their food. Unlike the phytoplankton that live at the sunlight zone . They get their food from the sun like plants through a process called photosynthesis. the Yeti crab uses his hairy arms to catch bacteria floating through the vents. He then eats the bacteria. Tube worms also eat the bacteria

Pollinators
Pollinators are insects and animals that pollinate flowers. Most Pollinators go to the flowers for the sweet delicious nectar . But some like the fig wasp go from flower to flower for another reason . The fig wasp lays its eggs in a fig gourd and when the babies hatch they are covered with pollen . When they go to another gourd to lay their own eggs the Pollen is delivered. One of the most famous Pollinators is the honey bee . It goes from flower to flower gathering nectar and pollen . we have some in our backyard.  there are other Pollinators to like the Butterfly ,the fly and wasp . there are also animal Pollinators like the hummingbird , some other birds, monkeys, lemurs, bats and lizards . the kinkajou Pollinates flowers also . Flowers use all sorts of way to lure Pollinators to them . First of all the promise of sweet nectar .  Flowers also look like other insects too make bees to attack it and gather Pollen . Some flowers smell like rotting meat so flies can land on them and gather Pollen . Hummingbirds like long tube like red flowers.  Without pollinators we wouldn't be alive. for fruit and veggies wouldn't grow if they were not Pollinated

The Wolf
The top predators of the woods.Wolves can run up to 100 miles a day without stopping , they are the marathoners of the woods. ravens follow them and eat some of the food they catch . Wolves can only catch a Moose as a pack . For a moose can use their antlers as a protection against one wolf. but as a pack they can surround the moose. the Cougar or Mountain lion is the only predator that can take on 2 or 3 wolves but as a pack they can surround the cougar .

The Great White Shark
The Great White Shark is the least known about Ocean predator.
Recently Scientists have learned that Great whites Travel Long distances up to 100,000 Miles! you might think Great whites don’t have any predators in the Ocean but Packs of Orca’s can Take down a full grown Shark . The only other predator they have are us . we kill more sharks every year then shark have killed us all together ! so shark should be scared of us ( They are Believe me!) Remoras (a kind of fish that can stick to a lot of things) stick onto the Great white with their mouths . They get a free ride and free snacks . the way the get free snacks is : when A great with tears a fish, seal or sea turtle with its jaws some scraps float away and the Remora eats them . The Great white rarely eats a Remora , Because the Remora is too small . Another fish a Great white Rarely eats is the Cleaner fish. Great whites ,Other sharks, Manta Rays and other fish go to cleaning stations . In these cleaning stations small cleaning fish swim into sharks and other fishes mouths and eat the parasites on them . It saves the shark and fish teeth and gives the cleaning fish food .Great whites have a special ability to roll their eyes into the back of their head when they attack so their eyes don't get hurt. Great white eggs Hatch inside the mother body

The African Crested Porcupine
The African Crested Porcupine is a species of Porcupine that lives in Africa and hides underground . No Porcupine shoots its quills . Its Quills are loosely attached and when a predator jumps on it it gets covered in quills. The African Crested doesn't have barbs on its Quills like the North american. A quill in the right spot like the chest or the face could kill a lion.
African Crested Porcupines are great diggers . They burrow holes to have their young in and to escape storms . Their quills are really hard hairs . They have a muscle attached to them . So when they get nervous their quills are raised .

That's what i have been learning about animals .

africa AFRICA AFRICA! AAFFRRIICCAA GHANA MALEI AND SONGHAI !!!!!!!!....

GREAT AFRICAN EMPIRES IN THE MIDDLE AGES ARE GHANA MALI AND SONGHAI.

FIRST GHANA

THERE WAS A TRADE ROUTE IN WEST AFRICA FROM THE SAHARA DESERT IN THE NORTH TO GOLD MINES IN THE SOUTH.

BETWEEN THE TWO WAS GHANA.

WHEN TRADERS FROM THE DESERT BROUGHT SALT TO SELL FOR THE GOLD IN THE SOUTH THEY WOULD CROSS THROUGH GHANA. THE KING OF GHANA DECIDED TO TAX THE PEOPLE WHO CAME THROUGH TO TRADE.
THAT WAY GHANA GOT SALT AND GOLD. THEY BECAME VERY RICH.

BUT MUSLIMS ATTACKED GHANA BECAUSE THEY REFUSED TO CONVERT TO ISLAM AND IT FELL APART.

NEXT IS MALI

MALI TOOK GHANA'S PLACE IN TAXING GOLD AND SALT. THERE KINGS WERE MUSLIM. ONE DAY THERE WAS A NEW KING IN MALI WHOSE NAME WAS MANSA MUSA.

MANSA MUSA TRAVELED TO MECCA AND HE GAVE AWAY LOTS OF GOLD ON HIS JOURNEY. HE CAME TO MECCA AND TOOK OFF HIS GOLD ROBES AND DRESSED IN A PLAIN WHITE ONE AND WASHED HIMSELF WITH WATER AND PRAYED AND HELPED THE POOR.

THEN HE HAD TO GO BACK TO MALI. BUT HE DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH GOLD SO HE HAD TO BORROW GOLD TO GET BACK . BECAUSE OF HIS TRIP EVERYONE KNEW ABOUT MANSA MUSA AND MALI IN EUROPE.

LAST IS SONGHAI

AFTER MANSA MUSA DIED MALI FELL AND THE SONGHAI PEOPLE BECAME THE NEW EMPIRE. THEIR CAPITAL WAS TIMBUKTU WHICH STILL EXISTS IN THE COUNTRY OF MALI AND THERE KING WAS ASKIA . THEY WERE RICH BECAUSE THEY TOOK GHANA AND MALI'S PLACE. THE MOST EXPENSIVE THING IN THEIR KINGDOM WERE BOOKS BECAUSE THEY WERE SO RARE.

TRIBES FROM MOROCCO WANTED THE SALT AND GOLD SO THEY ATTACKED WITH GUNS AND CANNONS. THE SONGHAI ONLY HAD SPEARS AND SHIELDS AND THEY LOST.

THAT'S THE END OF THE AFRICAN EMPIRES IN THE MIDDLE AGES.
